I went on a cruise expecting to relax and ended up rethinking my life

Me subí a un crucero esperando descansar y terminé replanteando mi vida

I’m going to confess something to you: I went on a Mediterranean cruise convinced that I knew exactly what I needed—sleep, sunshine, and to unplug a little. I had come from months of work, projects, commitments, travel, and a mind that never shuts off. I had the perfect plan. Or so I thought.

Because the exact opposite happened: as the noise died down, I started to listen to myself.

What I discovered when the noise died down

Between sunrises at sea, leisurely dinners, and landscapes that seemed unreal, I thought about how difficult digital disconnection has become for those of us who live online. However, I understood something even more important: deep in my heart, I don’t want to disconnect from you all.

Saying that I need a break from Instagram might sound like I need a break from my followers, and I have never felt it that way. You have become part of my life. I feel you getting closer all the time, and when I experience a happy moment, I want to share it so you can enjoy it with me.

A year ago, Sami used to complain that I was glued to my phone. Today, after seeing everything we have achieved, he understands that this isn’t just looking at a screen. He is also part of this team and now he is the one who tells me: "Tell them what’s happening. Make them part of this moment."

And I think that is beautiful.

Why social media tires us out (and it’s not for the reasons we think)

This trip made me understand why social media can end up exhausting us so much. True mental fatigue does not come from the screen: when what we show is too far from who we really are, maintaining that persona is exhausting, it steals energy, and little by little, it can make us lose our identity.

Authenticity on social media, on the other hand, is liberating.

We don’t need to share everything, but we do need to recognize ourselves in what we share. Because when there is a true connection, the community stops feeling like an obligation and becomes company.

Success can also be a beautiful cage

I also thought about everything I have built. I feel deeply grateful and proud, but I don’t want to be so busy achieving my dreams that I forget to enjoy them. That is the key to the work-life balance that is so hard for those of us who are female entrepreneurs to find.

I returned from the cruise with three certainties:

  • I don’t need to do less: I love what I do. I need to do it while being more present and taking care of my energy.
  • Not everything has to be solved right now: taking a break is also a way to move forward.
  • Rethinking doesn't mean destroying: sometimes it just means prioritizing and coming back with a different perspective.

I got on that cruise looking for rest. I didn't come back wanting to disconnect from you.

And you, when was the last time you stopped to listen to yourself?
